Luciano Candisani

Luciano Candisani is a conservation photographer of three decades, with images published by National Geographic and GEO and awards among the most important in world photography. His work balances art and document, and has yielded seven books, museum exhibitions, and membership in collectives such as ILCP, Sea Legacy, and The Photo Society.

The challenge

The volume and variety of the work imposed their own demands. It needed a place for the galleries, a showcase for selling fineart prints, an archive of about 60,000 photographs available for licensing, and an author profile, all without diluting the strength of the images in a generic interface. The website also needed to speak to audiences in Brazil and abroad, in Portuguese and English.

The solution

The main deliverables were:

• Galleries, with high-resolution image display in a layout that puts the photo at the center of the screen, with no noise around it;
• Fineart, section for selling limited-edition prints, with sizes, papers (Hahnemühle), and technical specifications;
• Archive, a structure for consulting and licensing the roughly 60,000 cataloged photographs;
• About, with biography, texts by critics, and TV appearances;
• Instagram integration, which brings the author’s feed to the home page; and
• Bilingual version in Portuguese and English, with the same content structure in both languages.

We built the front with performance in mind: images load progressively and the layout adapts from large screens to cell phones, preserving the quality of the visual experience.

The results

The website gathers in a single address three decades of Candisani’s work, from the archive open for licensing to the fineart prints for sale. The two-language version expands the reach to editors, museums, and collectors outside Brazil, and the Instagram integration keeps the home page updated with the most recent work. The project continues as the photographer’s official digital presence.
